Knowing When To Run, So That I Can Pursue

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

—2 Timothy 2:22 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to know when to run, so that I can stay away from those things of this world which pull me into desiring that which is not of You—things that keep me from the righteous lifestyle, faithfulness, love and peace that You have planned for me.

Keep me from chasing after what this world counts as important, desirable, or even necessary—knowing that it only acts to conform my thinking to the ways of this world, and causes me to lose the love and peace that I find when I am faithful to chase after a righteous life through Christ.

Help me to pursue that path that You have for me—setting aside the things that distract me from Your plan, and keeping at a proper distance those people that would hinder me from remaining in Your best plan for me.

Help me to seek out the best relationships that You have for me—making most of the companionship of those who call on You with pure hearts—those who are in that same pursuit of the very best You have for them.

Help me to know when to run, so that I can stay away from those things of this world which pull me into desiring that which is not of You—things that keep me from the righteous lifestyle, faithfulness, love and peace that You have planned for me.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

But If You Remain

But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

—John 15:7 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to remain in You and to allow Your words to remain in me—so that those things that I want, would be the very things that You want.

Help me to focus on the “if” in this promise, so that I will remain continually, vitally, and necessarily joined to You—abiding with You—as if my life depended on it, because in fact, it does!

Help me hold Your words captive in my heart—help me to rely on them, continually contemplate them, use them as my strict standard for that which I do, graciously grow by them, carefully cling to them for my hope, and evermore establish them as the Truth in my life.

I know that in as much as I am truly able to do this, not only will my thoughts, words and actions be in harmony with Your plans and purposes for my life, but every desire of my heart and every request that I make will be conformed to Your will.

Help me to remain in You and to allow Your words to remain in me—so that those things that I want, would be the very things that You want.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
