By the Way You Live

Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.

Matthew 3:8 (NLT)

Father God,

May the way that I live be evidence of my repentance for my sins—my decision to leave my old ways behind, to turn, and run to You.

Save me from the hypocrisy of claiming that I have repented of my sins, when there is no visible proof of my claim to be found in the way that I live my life.

Instead, help me show others—by the way I live my life—that I have been changed, been set apart to do Your will, and that I am submitted to Your will, plan and purpose for my life.

May the best evidence of this change in me be seen in the way that I love others—with all the compassion, kindness, patience, mercy, forgiveness, and grace which can only come through Christ.

May the way that I live be evidence of my repentance for my sins—my decision to leave my old ways behind, to turn, and run to You.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Not Just a Lot of Talk

For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.

—1 Corinthians 4:20 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

May Your Kingdom be seen in me, not just by the words that I say, but so much more by the way I live—as I live according to Your life-giving power at work within me.

By the power of Your Holy Spirit, continue to change my heart so that my walk—the evidence that proves what I truly believe—more perfectly reflects my talk—those things I claim to believe.

Help me to see that my understanding of the spiritual realm, over which You are sovereign, is not realized merely by knowing the right words to say—but that it is revealed and made alive by my personal experience of the power of Your Holy Spirit working in me, through me, and all around me.

Help me to live by submitting my will, my wants, and my desires more completely to Your authority over me, so that I might truly experience living by Your power—and so that Your Kingdom authority would be fully established, both in my life and here upon the earth.

May Your Kingdom be seen in me, not just by the words that I say, but so much more by the way I live—as I live according to Your life-giving power at work within me.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Keep a Close Watch

Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.

—1 Timothy 4:16 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to keep a close watch on how I live and what I teach. May I stay true to what is right, not only for the sake my own salvation, but also for the salvation of others.

Don’t allow me to indulge in any carelessness in the way I live my life—so that I don’t ever leave room for my actions to become a stumbling block for any who may be watching me.

May I especially watch the things that I teach to others—staying true to all that is right, knowing that as a teacher I am held to a higher standard of accountability, because of the influence I have on those whom I teach.

Help me remember that my lifestyle should be the primary evidence of my salvation—and that a life of inconsistency is contrary to the gospel and may cause others to fall.

Help me to keep a close watch on how I live and what I teach. May I stay true to what is right, not only for the sake my own salvation, but also for the salvation of others.

In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Mercy for Mercy

So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free.  There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.

James 2:12-13 (NLT)

Just and Merciful God,

May all my thoughts, words and actions be the evidence that I truly understand the depths of the mercy You have offered me—for I know I will receive mercy according to my willing obedience to extend that same mercy to others.

Help me remember that the same law that sets me free—that moral law that sets all obedient followers of Christ free from the bondage of sin—is the law by which I will be judged.

For while I have been saved by grace through faith, the evidence of my having received that salvation is my obedience to Christ—which is the path upon which perfect freedom is found—and my ability to extend mercy to others, is a proof that I am walking out that salvation which the Gospel of Christ has provided.

Let the mercy that You have poured over me be reflected in me, to all those around me, through my obedience to Christ’s command to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. For therein lies the power to love my neighbor as myself.

May all my thoughts, words and actions be the evidence that I truly understand the depths of the mercy You have offered me—for I know I will receive mercy according to my willing obedience to extend that same mercy to others.

The Law That Sets You Free

So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free.  There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.

—James 2:12-13 (NLT)

Just and Merciful God,

Let all of my thoughts, words and actions be evidence that I have truly understood the depths of the mercy that has been offered to me—for I know that I will receive Your mercy, according to my willing obedience to extend that same mercy to others.

Help me remember that the same law that sets me free—that moral law that sets all obedient followers of Christ free from the bondage of sin—is the law by which I will be judged.

For while I have been saved by grace through faith, the evidence of my having received that salvation is my obedience to Christ—which is the path upon which perfect freedom is found—and my ability to extend mercy to others is a proof that I am walking out that salvation which the Gospel of Christ has provided.

Let the mercy that You have poured over me be reflected in me, to all those around me, through my willing obedience to Christ’s command to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength—for therein lies the power to love my neighbor as myself.

Let all of my thoughts, words and actions be evidence that I have truly understood the depths of the mercy that has been offered to me—for I know that I will receive Your mercy, according to my willing obedience to extend that same mercy to others.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
