To Worship You in Spirit and in Truth

And so the LORD says,
“These people say they are mine.
They honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
And their worship of me
is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.”
—Isaiah 29:13 (NLT)

”For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
—John 4:24 (NLT)

Loving LORD God,

Let all that I am worship You in spirit and in truth!

Don’t allow me just to claim that I am Yours—to honor You with my lips, while my heart is far from You.  And keep me from becoming disobedient—whether it is through my careless neglect of my relationship with You, or by my willful and conscious disregard of Your commands.

Don’t allow my worship of You to become mechanical, or to be something I do by rote, or to flow from impure motives—which make my worship of You more about me, instead of all about You.  Keep me from becoming a hypocrite—from allowing my life and my worship to become a lie, told by both my words and my actions.

But rather, let me always worship You from a pure and right heart—motivated only by my love for who You are and for all that You have done—so that all of my thoughts, words and actions, at all times and in all places, would bring You glory, honor and praise.

Let Your Spirit be so fully alive on the inside of me that my life cannot help but be one continuous and unbroken act of honest, sincere and truthful worship of You.

Let all that I am worship You in spirit and in truth!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

What The Heart Is Full Of

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

—Luke 6:45 (NIV)

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

—Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to become a good man—one who chooses to fill his heart only with that which is good—so what overflows from my heart and across my lips will bring glory to You!

Let those things I have stored in my heart be things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise—so that the life I live will be a pleasing offering to You and be a source of blessing to others.

Help me not to allow any evil thoughts or the lies of the enemy to have any place in my heart—for if they are allowed, they will corrupt the good treasure of my heart and pollute that which spills over from within me.

Through Your Word and by Your Spirit fill my heart with Your Love and Truth—until I overflow with all things good, and become that faithful representative of my Lord, Jesus Christ, that You have called me to be.

Help me to become a good man—one who chooses to fill his heart only with that which is good—so what overflows from my heart and across my lips will bring glory to You!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Saved In Every Way

Let the whole earth sing to the LORD!
Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.

—1 Chronicles 16:23 (NLT)

LORD Who Saves,

Let the whole earth be filled with singing—proclaiming the Good News that You save!

Each day, fill my heart with gratitude, LORD—for Your saving power!

Each day, fill my mouth with thanksgiving, LORD—with songs of praise to You!

Each day, fill my life with Your Presence, LORD—that I might see Your hand at work in me, through me and all around me.

Each day, use my lips to spread the Good News—proclaiming how You have saved me in every way, as I have put my trust in You alone.

Let the whole earth be filled with singing—proclaiming the Good News that You save!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
