You Came When I Called

 

 

Yes, you came when I called;

    you told me, “Do not fear.”

Lord, you have come to my defense;

    you have redeemed my life.

Faithful Lord, My Redeemer,

 

Thank You that, because of Your faithfulness to me, I don’t ever have to be afraid.

 

Thank You for being the God who hears me when I call out to You in prayer—the One who comes to me and speaks words of comfort to my soul, the One who speaks only truth and tells me, “Do not fear.”

 

Thank You for coming to defend me, by surrounding me with Your angelic armies—who fight against every attack of the enemy as he seeks to destroy me—and for ushering me safely through every battle by covering me in Your unfailing love.

 

Thank You for redeeming my life—for sending Christ to lay down his life and pay the price I could never pay—that I might find my life in Him, and live that life for Him alone!

Being Dead To Be Truly Alive

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

—Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

Heavenly Father,

Help me remember that the old me has been crucified with Christ—that the old me is dead and I don’t need to go trying to resurrect him!

Help me to let what has died be dead—that is my old nature—so that, by faith, Christ may be made fully alive in the life that I now live in the flesh.

Show me that just like dead people are no longer anxious, no longer get worried, no longer can be insulted, hurt or offended by others, I, too, should not allow anything of these things to bother me—if I am truly crucified with Christ.

When the old me wants tries to raise its ugly head and cause me to be held captive by my past or by the uncertainty over things yet to come, or to lust after the things of this world, remind me that I live by faith in the One who lives in me—that my life, my joy and my peace is found in Christ alone.

Don’t allow me to forget that Christ cannot be made fully alive in me when I continue to go back and try to revive my old self—when I forget that I was bought with a very high price and the life that I now live is not mine to live, but His.

Help me remember that the old me has been crucified with Christ—that the old me is dead and I don’t need to go trying to resurrect him!

Your Grace Alone

My old self has been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.  So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 

I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless.  For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

—Galatians 2:20-21 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

May I never forget that it was Your grace alone—Your unmerited favor poured out on me—that saved me from my sin.

Help me to remember that because—by faith—I have accepted the salvation You provided for me—by Your grace to me—my old sinful nature no longer has control over me, but it was nailed to the cross with Jesus and has died.

And now that my old self has died, Christ has come to live in me so that my life—the life I live in this body—is lived by trusting in Him, the only one worthy to pay the price for my sin by dying for me.

Help me always remember that there is nothing that I could ever do to earn the right to salvation—because if there was something I could do to earn it, then Christ would have died for no reason.

Help me never to treat Your grace as meaningless, but always remember the terrible price that was paid to set me free from the power of sin over my life.

May I never forget that it was Your grace alone—Your unmerited favor poured out on me—that saved me from my sin.
