If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.—1 John 4:20 (NASB)
Heavenly Father,
Show me my heart—and help me to consider the truth of my claim that I love You.
Let my love for You be demonstrated
in my love for others—and especially my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Help me to see You in
others—for they have been made in Your image—and help me love them as You do, with an
unconditional love.
For how can I choose to hate
the visible image of God that stands before me within my brothers and sisters and
still claim that I love You—having never seen You?
Show me my heart—and help me to consider the truth of my claim that I love You.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
