To Give Myself For Her

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her….

—Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

—1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the privilege that You have given me to be a part of what You are doing in my wife’s life—by allowing me the opportunity to give myself for her.

Help me as I purpose to follow Christ’s example of love for the church by making her the focus of my attention—looking for ways that I can sacrifice my wants in order to serve her needs.

And help me to remember that though I may never be called upon to physically die so that she might live, I must live my life with that kind of willingness in every moment—so that she will see the love of Christ in me.

So let the love that I show her be the love that You have loved me with—a love that is patient and kind. A love that is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.  A love that does not demand its own way.  A love that is not irritable and doesn’t keep a list of the times that it has been wronged.  A love that celebrates when truth and justice wins out.

Let my love for her be a love that never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance and brings us both forward in You and Your perfect plan for us.

Thank You for the privilege that You have given me to be a part of what You are doing in my wife’s life—by allowing me the opportunity to give myself for her.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
