Warn, Encourage, Help, and Be Patient

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

—1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to be the kind of person who always speaks the Truth—that Truth which is found in Your Word and revealed to us by Your Spirit—out of obedience to Your instruction and motivated only by a deep and compassionate love for others.

As you place opportunities before me to warn those who are idle and disruptive, grant me the courage to do so by lovingly helping them to see the Truth that is found in Your Word—so that they can be healed and become productive and unifying members of the body of Christ.

But as I speak, keep me from having a critical or judgmental spirit—so that I would only admonish them as a brother standing with them in this same good fight of faith.

When someone has become disheartened, grant me the privilege of coming along beside them to encourage them with what You say about their situation and circumstances—offering them Truth, out of my love for them, so that they would not give up the fight.

Place before me opportunities to help those who are weak—so that by the power of the Truth of Your Word and the love of Christ flowing from me, they would again be made strong in Him.

Let me always demonstrate to others the same kind of patience that You have poured over me—and over all who choose to receive the freely offered gift of Your amazing grace.

Help me to be the kind of person who always speaks the Truth—that Truth which is found in Your Word and revealed to us by Your Spirit—out of obedience to Your instruction and motivated only by a deep and compassionate love for others.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
