The Love of Christ!

Jesus wept.

John 11:35 (NASB)

Compassionate Lord Jesus,

Thank You for Your deep, deep love of humanity which You expressed to us in the tears that You shed.

Thank You for loving me enough to come to earth and take on the flesh and blood and the mind and emotions of a man, to experience all the tests and trials and grief and pain that I face—and so much more—so I would know that You know how I feel.

Thank You that there is healing from my hurts and pains in the tears that You designed for me to shed—that it’s okay to cry—and that in crying I should cry out to You, the only One who can help me live an overcoming life of peace and victory.

Thank You for Your example of loving compassion and how it reminds me of my obligation to open my heart that I might be overwhelmed by Your Spirit with compassion for all those around me—for life in this world is not easy, especially for those who do not know You.

Thank You for Your deep, deep love of humanity which You expressed to us in the tears that You shed.

In Your Matchless Name, Jesus, Amen.

His Own Special Treasure

“They will be my people,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.  Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.” —Malachi 3:17-18 (NLT)

O LORD of Heaven’s Armies,

Thank You for adopting me into the family of those who are Your people—those who are Your special treasure!

Help me to remain faithful to obey the instructions and commands of Your Word and every prompting of Your Holy Spirit—so that on the day You act in judgement, You will spare me as a father spares an obedient child.

Help me never to walk away from the righteousness that is mine in Christ Jesus—never trample upon that redemption that Christ purchased for me with His own blood.

Help me not grow weary in serving You with my whole heart—so that I might never be counted among the wicked, but be counted as a servant of God, and of Him alone!

Thank You for adopting me into the family of those who are Your people—those who are Your special treasure!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Living in the Light, Practicing the Truth

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.  So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.  But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

—1 John 1:5-7 (NLT)

Holy God, Father of Light,

Draw me into ever-deeper fellowship with You—and also with my brothers and sisters in Christ.  Help me resist any temptation to continue to live in spiritual darkness—but rather, let the passion of my heart be to live in the Light, in the Truth of Your Word.

Don’t allow my life to be a lie, but continue to lead me toward that life of Truth that You desire for me to live—toward that light of Your perfection.

For You are light and in You there is no darkness at all—for You are a Holy God, perfect in all Your attributes and actions.

And though I am made in Your image, there is yet darkness that remains within me—that keeps me from perfect fellowship with You.

So help me to live in the fullness of Your light, by allowing the light of Christ to live in me—to dispel any darkness in my heart and to cleanse me from all my sin.

Let my uninterrupted fellowship with You perfect my fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ—and be the evidence that I am walking in the light of Truth.

Draw me into ever-deeper fellowship with You—and also with my brothers and sisters in Christ.  Help me resist any temptation to continue to live in spiritual darkness—but rather, let the passion of my heart be to live in the Light, in the Truth of Your Word.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
