Steadfast Love!

O my Strength, to you I sing praises,
for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.

—Psalm 59:17 (NLT)

Loving and Gracious God,

May I always sing praise to You, so all might know that You are my Strength and my Refuge—the God who shows me unfailing love.

I will sing praise to You for being my Strength. You are the power within me, the Holy Spirit by whom I am equipped and sustained for every good work that You have planned for me to accomplish in Christ.

I will sing praise to You for being my Refuge.  You are that safe haven against the evil of this life, where I find peace, protection, and provision for my every need under the shelter of Your Presence with me.

I will sing praise to You for Your unfailing love. You pour out Your unfailing loving-kindness, mercy, and grace over me, so that I can love others with the love of Christ.

May I always sing praise to You, so all may know that You are my Strength and my Refuge—the God who shows me unfailing love.

The Love of Christ!

Jesus wept.

John 11:35 (NASB)

Compassionate Lord Jesus,

Thank You for Your deep, deep love of humanity which You expressed to us in the tears that You shed.

Thank You for loving me enough to come to earth and take on the flesh and blood and the mind and emotions of a man, to experience all the tests and trials and grief and pain that I face—and so much more—so I would know that You know how I feel.

Thank You that there is healing from my hurts and pains in the tears that You designed for me to shed—that it’s okay to cry—and that in crying I should cry out to You, the only One who can help me live an overcoming life of peace and victory.

Thank You for Your example of loving compassion and how it reminds me of my obligation to open my heart that I might be overwhelmed by Your Spirit with compassion for all those around me—for life in this world is not easy, especially for those who do not know You.

Thank You for Your deep, deep love of humanity which You expressed to us in the tears that You shed.

In Your Matchless Name, Jesus, Amen.

Deep Waters

When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.

     —Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)

Loving LORD,

You are the One who is always with me—for you have placed Your loving affection upon me! You take each step of this life with me and are always faithful—never letting go of my hand—so that I never walk alone!

When I feel as if I am in too deep, like I am no longer able to touch bottom, and am drowning in my troubles, You are there to give me my next breath and to help me to regain my footing once again.

When I feel as if I am going to be swept away by the raging currents around me—the tides of evil that come against me—You are there to help me stand firm and to discover that You are my refuge and strength.

When I feel the burning oppression of the enemy seeking to consume my very soul, You are there to shield me in Your loving arms—to remind me of who I am, and assure me of Your immeasurable love for me, so that I can continue to walk with You through every attack, in victory.

You are the One who is always with me—for you have placed Your loving affection upon me! You take each step of this life with me and are always faithful—never letting go of my hand—so that I never walk alone!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Comfort Others

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.  He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.  When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

Merciful and Comforting Father God,

Teach me to show others the same mercy and extend to them the same loving comfort that You pour out on me when I am weighed down with troubles.

Help me be careful to give You all the praise—as the Father of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and the source of all comfort—for Your continuing faithfulness to bring good out of all my troubles.

Don’t let me forget that You allow hardships, so that I can experience Your faithfulness in my hardships—whether You choose to deliver me from them altogether or walk with me through them to ultimate victory in Christ.

Remind me that, as I find comfort and help from You in my troubles, You are equipping me then to be able to offer that same comfort to others who are troubled—and to point them to the only true source of help and hope.

Teach me to show others the same mercy and extend to them the same loving comfort that You pour out on me when I am weighed down with troubles.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Like a Breath of Air

O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them,
mere mortals that you should think about them?

For they are like a breath of air;
their days are like a passing shadow.

—Psalm 144:3-4 (NLT)

O LORD, Our Father in Heaven,

Out the vastness of all that You have created, You choose not only to notice us, but to pour out over us Your mercy, grace, and love, in abundance!  Such things are too great for me to ever fully understand—and yet I believe!

What is it about human beings—mere mortals—that You should pay us any attention, that You should set Your thoughts on any one of us?  And why would a holy, righteous, and just God want anything to do with me?

The answer lies somewhere in the truth that though You are holy, righteous, and just, You are also equally merciful, gracious, and loving.  It is the completeness of Your perfect character that has chosen to call us into relationship with You.

You have loved us, chosen us, called us, and wanted us in this intimate relationship with You so that we could be made perfect in Christ—and so we would show forth the glories of our God to all the world with our lives!

So, though I may not see or fully understand Your plans and purposes for my short life, may I submit myself to Your Will in all things—trusting in Your great love for me—and love You back as a reflection of all the love I have been given.

Out of the vastness of all that You have created, You choose not only to notice us, but to pour out over us Your mercy, grace, and love, in abundance!  Such things are too great for me to ever fully understand—and yet I believe!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Don't Get Sidetracked!

Mark out a straight path for your feet;
    stay on the safe path.

Don’t get sidetracked;
keep your feet from following evil.

—Proverbs 4:26-27 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

With each new day, help me to mark out the straight path for my feet—the path which leads to a more abundant life!

Keep me on that straight path of willing obedience to Your will and Your decrees—as You prove Your loving faithfulness to me by keeping me in every way, when I choose the safe path you have offered me.

And don’t allow me to get sidetracked by the distractions of this world—to wander off that path—but help me stay focused on honoring Your ever-abiding Presence with me, as You show me the next best step for me.

For then my feet will not follow after evil and I won’t find myself lost along the way—as I journey through this life, on my way home to You.

With each new day, help me to mark out the straight path for my feet—the path which leads to a more abundant life!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Far Beyond

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine."

—Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

Sovereign LORD,

How limited I am in my understanding—and yet, how gracious You are to show me things I could never come to understand on my own!

You are the Sovereign LORD—my infinitely powerful, infinitely present, infinitely wise, infinitely loving, Heavenly Father. How foolish it would be for me to depend on my own understanding, when Your thoughts reach infinitely further than mine!

Help me understand that I cannot ever fully understand Your thoughts and Your ways, because of the finite limits of my mind. My thinking can be distorted by the ongoing assault of the enemy’s lies, so help me remember that I am totally dependent on You to lead me into all Truth.

Draw me close and teach me to pursue a more personal and intimate relationship with You always—so I might learn to trust more completely in Your love for me and Your absolute knowledge of, and provision for, everything that I need to accomplish Your will and purpose for me.

How limited I am in my understanding—and yet, how gracious You are to show me things I could never come to understand on my own!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Answer Me

Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.

—Psalm 86:1 (ESV)

Loving and Compassionate Father God,

Don’t allow me to ever take for granted the truth that, like a good father, You bend down to listen to my every word and understand every matter on my heart—then lovingly and compassionately answer me according to what is best for me.

Thank You that because You are a loving and compassionate God, I can be confidently assured that You will never disregard or dismiss the cries of my heart.

With that confidence that You hear me, help me to always come to You in humility, recognizing that I am poor and needy—that without You I am nothing and apart from You I can do no good thing.

Thank You for answering me out of the infinite vastness of Your love, understanding, and wisdom, so that I can always trust that You answer will set me on the very best path that You have for me—and that in walking that path with You, I will find my every need met.

Don’t allow me to ever take for granted the truth that, like a good father, You bend down to listen to my every word and understand every matter on my heart—then lovingly and compassionately answer me according to what is best for me.

In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Just Walk by Faith

The LORD directs our steps,
so why try to understand everything along the way?

—Proverbs 20:24 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

When I don’t quite understand all that is going on, grant me the faith I need to trust You and the patience I need to wait and watch, as You unfold before me—according to Your perfect timing—Your plan to use all things to accomplish Your purposes.

Keep me in Your peace, by helping me to accept that the full impact of Your plans and purposes—for those things that happen both to me and all around me—is infinitely beyond my ability to fully comprehend, but still a part of Your plan.

Don’t allow my days to be so consumed by my own “need" to understand the reason behind why certain things happen, that I miss doing the next good and right thing with the opportunity that You have placed immediately before me—a gracious and loving invitation to join in with what You are doing.

Keep me from the temptation to “make You in my image”—thinking I know best what You should do and how You should do it.  Rather be the Lord of my life—as the Sovereign God that You are—within my heart of hearts.

When I don’t quite understand all that is going on, grant me the faith I need to trust You and the patience I need to wait and watch, as You unfold before me—according to Your perfect timing—Your plan to use all things to accomplish Your purposes.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

For the Good of Others

Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

—1 Corinthians 10:24 (NLT)

Loving and Compassionate God,

Save me from any self-centered tendency in me that would cause me to consider only that which is good for me!

Too often I make decisions according to what I think is best for me—with little thought to making those decisions based on what is good for others.

Help me to think about myself less, so I can think more about the people that You divinely place in my path—and what I might do that would be best for them.

Today, grant me opportunities to be more self-sacrificial—and help me to be willingly obedient to Your Spirit’s promptings, so that Christ may be glorified in me.

Save me from any self-centered tendency in me that would cause me to consider only that which is good for me!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Nothing Hidden, All Naked and Exposed!

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

—Hebrews 4:13 (NLT)

Omniscient God,

Thank You for loving me, wanting me, and for continually calling me into a deeper relationship with You—even though You see and know all my imperfections.

You have created everything there is and there is not one thing that is hidden from You. You have perfect and absolute knowledge of the smallest detail about every person, everywhere, at all times.

You know all of my thoughts, even before they are formed; sense every one of my emotions, before they ever manifest; discern and understand my every motive, better than I ever will myself; hear my every word, even before it is formed in my mouth and crosses my lips; and You see everything I do, before I even begin to do it.

And You are the One to whom I am held accountable, so help me to see myself as I truly am—then help me repent of my sin, submit myself to You, and allow You to change me into the person I should be.

Help me each day to purpose in my heart to please You in everything that I think, say, and do—just as You are faithful to shower me daily with new mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love.

Thank You for loving me, wanting me, and for continually calling me into a deeper relationship with You—even though You see and know all my imperfections.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
