A Spirit of Fear is Not From God

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

—2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for showing me that I don’t have to be afraid—for reminding me that You didn’t create me to be timid, or to act cowardly, or fearfully—but that the spirit You have given me is a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.

You have given me a spirit of power to resolutely face any trouble, opposition or obstacle with courage—since You have delivered me from any cowardice or timidity, by the strength of the Greater One who lives in me.

You have given me a spirit of love, both for You—which gives me the faith and the freedom to rise above any fear of man or circumstance—and for the souls of others—which gives me the desire and the power to compassionately reach out to my neighbor with truth and grace.

You have given me a spirit of a calm, and well-balanced, and sound mind, so that with that quietness of mind, I can remain peacefully disciplined—as I surrender control to Your Spirit and entertain only thoughts that are true and life-giving.

Thank You for showing me that I don’t have to be afraid—for reminding me that You didn’t create me to be timid, or to act cowardly, or fearfully—but that the spirit You have given me is a spirit of power, and love, and of a sound mind.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

The Path of Life in God's Presence

“The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”  —Exodus 14:14 (NLT)
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."  —Exodus 33:14 (NIV)
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
—Psalm 16:11 (NASB)

LORD of Life, and Joy, and Peace,

When I grow weary of the fight, when I long for peace and rest, when I don’t know what to do, remind me to remain calm—to remain in Your Presence.

Keep me from the insanity of trying to fight on my own—when if I will be still in Your Presence, You will show me how You already are, and always have been, fighting for me.

Keep me from the insanity of trying to find rest anywhere other than in Your Presence—for only there can my mind be quieted, my will become submitted to Yours, and my emotions find the serenity I long for.

Keep me from the insanity of trying to find my way through life outside of Your Presence—for only You can light the path of life for me and show me the joys of obediently living in Your Presence here on earth.

And grant that I would experience all of the fullness of joy and the pleasures that You offer to me, as You hold me in Your everlasting arms—and fight all my battles for me.

When I grow weary of the fight, when I long for peace and rest, when I don’t know what to do, remind me that You are waiting for me to be still in Your Presence.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
