God is Faithful!

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

—1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being faithful to provide the way of escape—from the temptations of this world—to all who have received the salvation you offer through Jesus Christ.

Don’t allow me to think that the temptation that overcomes me is any different than those that the rest of humanity experiences. Help me to see that every temptation is common to mankind in this broken world—and allowed by You that I may grow through them.

Help me to remember that because of the Holy Spirit who lives within me, I have the power available to resist and withstand every temptation, to choose a different way—the way of escape. I have been set free from my slavery to sin—set free to choose what is right and good and to reject that which is not.

Help me see that the way of escape is found within my relationship with Your written and living Word. Keep me willingly obedient to every instruction of Your Word, trusting every prompting of Your Spirit—as You lead me in the path of life and peace.

Thank You for being faithful to provide the way of escape—from the temptations of this world—to all who have received the salvation you offer through Jesus Christ.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Loving in the Same Way Christ has Loved Me

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

—John 13:34 (NASB)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to be willing and obedient to love—in the same way that Christ has loved me.

Christ’s command is that I love others as He has loved me—so that the world can see His love demonstrated through me, and so You would be revealed in that love.

Christ loved through service—in humility, setting aside His divine nature.  So, I must also be willing to humble myself to serve others.

Christ loved through sacrifice—making the needs of others more important than His own life and death.  So, I must sacrifice my selfish desires to meet the needs of others.

Christ loved through instructing others with Truth and Grace—wrapping every lesson He gave to them in Your love.  So, I must walk that fine line of teaching Truth and showing Grace—at the same time—with Love as my only motivation.

Christ loved by bearing the pain of being misunderstood, reviled, falsely accused, and abused both verbally and physically—so that the greatest act of Love could be realized.  So, I must be willing to endure suffering, when Christ’s law of love requires it—as it leads to the greater good that comes when I have loved the way Christ loves.

Help me to be willing and obedient to love—in the same way that Christ has loved me.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

A Way Out

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

—1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

Dear Lord,

Thank You for being faithful—and for showing me a way out from every temptation that I face.

Thank You for showing me that I am not alone in temptation—that everyone is tempted and to be tempted is not sin.

Thank You that You do not allow me to be tempted beyond what I am able to stand—that You are always ready to show me a way of escape so that I can endure.

So, help me to avoid people or situations that might cause me to be tempted—and help me to run from that which I know is wrong.

Help me to pray for strength in the midst of any temptation that I encounter—that I might make choices that are good and right.

Help me to remember that You set me free from sin so that I could make the right choice—so that I could resist the temptation and choose the abundant life I find in You.

Help me to live in Your Presence, seeking Your will—by spending time in prayer, in reading and studying Your Word, and in quietly listening for Your voice to speak to my heart—so that when temptation comes I will be prepared to resist the temptation and do what is pleasing to You.

Thank You for being faithful—and for showing me a way out from every temptation that I face.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

It's All My Choice

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

--1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

Dear Lord,

Help me to remember, when I am tempted to sin, that I alone am the one who decides whether to allow that temptation to overpower me, or to look to You to show me the way out.

Your Word tells me that I am not alone in my temptations—that everyone is tempted and that my temptations are no different than what others experience.

You also tell me that You will  be faithful to be there, not allowing the temptation to be too much for me to resist, but showing me a way out, so that I always have that free-will choice to make.

Help me to make the right choice. Help me to look for the way out.

Help me to recognize that it may come from You showing me people or situations to avoid that would lead me to be tempted in the first place.

That it may come from Your Spirit prompting me to run from things that I know are wrong or reminding me to pray in the middle of the temptation.

That it may come from You showing me the importance of the support of godly friends who are willing to love me by holding me accountable for my actions.

Help me to see that temptation isn’t sin, until I quit looking for the way out that You have provided and choose its destructive course, instead.

Help me to remember, when I am tempted to sin, that I alone am the one who decides whether to allow that temptation to overpower me, or to look to You to show me the way out.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
