An Example to Follow

I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

—John 13:15 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, to us all! May I always follow His example of obedience, humility, and sacrifice, as I serve those whom You have entrusted to me, with the love of Christ.

Help me to follow His perfect example. May I reflect His heart more perfectly, offer His grace more compassionately, speak His Truth only out of love, and emulate His servant leadership more completely.

Help me to walk in His humility. May I set aside all my pride—not considering anything You ask me to do to be beneath me—and joyfully embrace any invitation that You give me to be a part of what You are doing.

Help me to love as Jesus loves. Make me humbly and willingly obedient to every command and instruction of Your Word and every prompting of Your Holy Spirit within me, as evidence of my love for You and my love for my neighbor, for Your glory, honor, and praise.

Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, to us all! May I always follow His example of obedience, humility, and sacrifice, as I serve those whom You have entrusted to me, with the love of Christ.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

The Servant of Everyone Else

After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?”  But they didn’t answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.  He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
—Mark 9:33-35

Heavenly Father,

May everything that I say and do, the deepest thoughts of my mind, and every hidden motive of my heart, always be pleasing to You—so that I never have to be ashamed when I am asked to account for them.

Help me to guard against being caught up in chasing after any man-made ideas of what success or achievement might be—only to find that my own self-promotion has kept me from Your higher plans and better purposes for my life.

Help me to watch that I don’t allow my own deep-rooted insecurities or foolish pride cause me to put too much stock in the power of a position, or the amount of prestige it might happen to carry—but humbly remember that I am nothing without You.

Help me to fully understand that all my energy, time and talents should be directed to knowing Christ for myself and making Him known to others—by following His example of leadership and reflecting His love—as I become a servant of all.

May everything that I say and do, the deepest thoughts of my mind, and every hidden motive of my heart, always be pleasing to You—so that I never have to be ashamed when I am asked to account for them.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

To Follow the Example of Christ

For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.

—John 13:15 (ESV)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to follow the perfect example of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Grant that I would reflect His heart more perfectly, speak His Truth out of love, offer His grace with compassion, and emulate the humility of His servant leadership with others.

Thank You for the gift that You so graciously gave to us, when You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to come and walk upon the earth among us—as an example for us all.  Help me to pattern my life after His life of service to all those around Him.

Help me to walk in His humility—having set aside of all my pride—that I might not consider anything You ask me to do to be beneath me, but joyfully and obediently embrace any opportunity You give me to be a part of what You are doing.

Help me to love as He did—as His compassion stirs my heart and I respond with appropriate Godly action. May others experience Christ’s love—as I allow it to flow into me and through me—that You would receive all of the glory!

Help me to follow the perfect example of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Grant that I would reflect His heart more perfectly, speak His Truth with love, offer His grace with compassion, and emulate the humility of His servant leadership to all.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
