Turn Away From Evil!

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

Proverbs 3:7 (NLT)

All-Wise Father,

Don't allow me to be impressed with my own wisdom—when You are the only wise God.

Keep me from thinking that my own intellect or reasoning will produce any wisdom outside of You—but let me pray, asking You to make me wise, as You reveal Your Truth to me through Your Word and by Your Spirit.

Help me humbly and reverently fear and worship You alone and turn my back on all that is evil—repenting of all my sin and determining to find Your best for me—by submitting myself to Your will, plans, and purposes for my life.

Grant me the wisdom always to seek You first, in all things, so that my life would be lived out in Truth—both in private moments and in public moments—as a testimony to others, all for Your glory, honor, and praise.

Don't allow me to be impressed with my own wisdom—when You are the only wise God.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Share Each Other's Burdens

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.  If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

—Galatians 6:2-3 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Keep me from getting so caught up in my own self-perceived importance that I fail to be obedient to Your call to share the burdens of those You place in my path.

Give me the heart to do the hard work of sharing the burdens of others—of lightening their load of care and helping them back to the peace and joy that You have called them to in Christ.

In willingly obedience, let me submit to the law of Christ—to be faithful to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, and allow the love of Christ to reach through me, to love others as I have been so greatly loved.

Save me from the pride and arrogance that tempts me to think more of myself than I ought to think—when I know that any good in me comes from You alone, and can only be made known when I submit myself completely to Your plans and purposes for me.

Keep me from getting so caught up in my own self-perceived importance that I fail to be obedient to Your call to share the burdens of those You place in my path.

Live in Harmony

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

—Romans 12:16 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Give me a humble heart and pure motives, so that I might have the privilege of joining in with You to touch the lives of others with Your love.

Help me to live in harmony with those around me—by celebrating the diversity of souls that You have created and making my first consideration my own shortcomings, rather than the shortcomings of others.

Keep me from taking a proud and haughty attitude with others, thinking I am better than them, when in truth it is only by Your mercy, grace, and strength that I can stand at all.

Teach me to enjoy the company of “ordinary” people—people who are just broken in different ways than I am—and help me to work willingly alongside them as you lead, understanding that You are the One who knows it all.

Give me a humble heart and pure motives, so that I might have the privilege of joining in with You to touch the lives of others with Your love.

The One and Only God of My Life

“You shall have no other gods before Me.”

—Exodus 20:3 (NKJV)

O LORD My God,

Be for me the One and Only God of my life.  For there is no other god—whether person or thing—worthy of my worship!

Help me never to put another person, place, or thing before my love and worship of You, as my God.  May that place in my heart and life be exclusively Yours!

Keep me from making gods of anything or anyone in this world that I might value or set my love upon, fear or submit to, delight in or depend on, other than You.  For without You I have nothing—and I am nothing.

Don’t allow my foolish pride to cause me to make a god of myself, a desire for wealth or possessions to make money a god in my eyes, a desire for position or authority to make power a god I would worship, or a desire to enjoy life to make pleasure a god that I would follow.

May my identity, purpose, source of security, and hope only be found in You—my God—as I submit myself completely to Your loving care, and fear no other.

Be for me the One and Only God of my life.  For there is no other god—whether person or thing—worthy of my worship!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Turning Away From the Evil of Pride

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

—Proverbs 3:7 (NLT)

All-Wise Father,

Don't allow me to be impressed with my own wisdom—as though any wisdom that comes through me, could have originated from me!  For You are the Holy God, only All-Wise Father, and Originator of all things—and my pride is that evil which separates me from You.

Keep me from thinking that my own intellect or reasoning will produce any wisdom outside of You—but let me pray, asking You to make me wise, as You reveal Your Truth to me by Your Spirit and through Your Word.

Help me humbly and reverently fear and worship You alone and turn my back on all that is evil—repenting of all my sin and determining to find Your best for me—by submitting myself to Your will, plans and purposes for my life.
