Share Each Other's Burdens

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.  If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

—Galatians 6:2-3 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Keep me from getting so caught up in my own self-perceived importance that I fail to be obedient to Your call to share the burdens of those You place in my path.

Give me the heart to do the hard work of sharing the burdens of others—of lightening their load of care and helping them back to the peace and joy that You have called them to in Christ.

In willingly obedience, let me submit to the law of Christ—to be faithful to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, and allow the love of Christ to reach through me, to love others as I have been so greatly loved.

Save me from the pride and arrogance that tempts me to think more of myself than I ought to think—when I know that any good in me comes from You alone, and can only be made known when I submit myself completely to Your plans and purposes for me.

Keep me from getting so caught up in my own self-perceived importance that I fail to be obedient to Your call to share the burdens of those You place in my path.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

In Humility Value Others

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

—Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Save me from my own self-centeredness and any impure, attention-seeking motive in me—so that I might walk in true humility, thinking of others before myself.

Help me not to be selfish—always looking at everything to see what’s in it for me, rather than how it might be an opportunity for me to be a part of what You are doing to benefit others.

Help me not to try vainly to impress others, but simply just do all I can to please You—as by faith I follow Your will, plan and purpose for me in each and every moment You give me.

Keep me humble before You and before others—and help me to value them above myself, so that I am never found to be arrogant, irritable or unapproachable.

Help me not to look out for my own interests alone—but make my first effort to look out for the interests of others, with the love of Christ.

Save me from my own self-centeredness and any impure, attention-seeking motive in me—so that I might walk in true humility, thinking of others before myself.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

He Who Works for Us

For since the world began,

   no ear has heard

and no eye has seen a God like you,

who works for those who wait for him!

—Isaiah 64:4 (NLT)

Father God,

Teach me how to wait for You—and remind me that it is the most important thing that I must do today!

There is no God like You.  Since the world began, You have always been ready to work on behalf of anyone who would patiently wait for You—anyone who would take time to be quiet in Your presence, listen for Your voice to speak to them, and follow You as You guide and direct their ways.

Help me to see that taking time to be quiet before You is the most important thing I can do today—so that You can show me the way that I should go and the things that You want me to do.

Help me to realize that if I fail to do this, that I will exhaust myself in busyness and in doing things in my own strength—by my own will—and in the end, I will neither accomplish that which You want me to do, nor will I be any closer to being who You want me to become.

Help me to understand that the difference my life makes in this world is determined much less by how much I do, and so much more by how closely my life reflects the light of Christ’s love in me, to those around me.

Let me live in the truth that the more I wait on You—trusting You to work in me, and through me, and all around me, according to Your perfect plan—the less difficult my life becomes, and the more peace and joy I will experience.

Teach me how to wait for You—and remind me that it is the most important thing that I must do today!

In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Keep and Protect

I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but that You keep them and protect them from the evil one.

—John 17:15 (AMP)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me to walk that fine line between understanding that this world is not my home, and still accepting that I have an important part to play in Your divine plan, while I remain here.

Help me to remember that when Jesus prayed to You, He did not ask You to take us out of the world, because the world desperately needs the light of Christ that believers reflect when we remain submitted to Him.

So, help me to remain submitted to Christ and live my life for Your glory—as a good representative of the One who gave His life, so that I might truly live for Him in this world.

And help me to trust You and never be afraid—knowing that You not only heard His prayer when He asked You to keep us and protect us from the evil one, but You also are faithful to answer that prayer, both right now and forevermore.

Help me to walk that fine line between understanding that this world is not my home, and still accepting that I have an important part to play in Your divine plan, while I remain here.

Above All Else!

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

—Luke 12:31 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Teach me to keep that which is most important, the most important thing in my life—that is, to seek Christ above all else and to rest in Him.

Grant me the faith to submit every area of my life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ—with the unwavering confidence that He gives me everything I need.

Let the plans that I make be in harmony with the path that You unfold before me—which is Your very best for me.

Let the work that I set my hands to be the good work that You are doing in the lives of others around me—work that You graciously allow me to join with You in doing.

Let the close relationships that I form be the relationships that You have appointed for me—relationships in which everyone is wonderfully blessed.

Let the hope that I have in my heart be the hope that is found in You alone—that I would not place my hope in anyone or anything less.

Let the love that I share be a perfect reflection of the unfailing love You have showered on me—that others might see Christ in me and give You glory.

Let the time that I celebrate be a joyous time of praise and thanksgiving to You for Your gift of life to me—and the promise that there is better yet to come in my forever home with You.

Let the rest that I take from my labors, be the rest that only You can give—flowing from the knowledge that You care for my every need.

Teach me to keep that which is most important, the most important thing in my life—that is, to seek Christ above all else and to rest in Him.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
