For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.—Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Creator God,
Help me to see myself as Your masterpiece, so I might also see the beauty of Your other masterpieces—which are the lives of those who surround me each day.
It is so hard for me, at
times, to see myself as a masterpiece, because I know my many imperfections. But Your Word tells me You have made me anew
in Christ Jesus, putting me in right-standing, so that I can do the good things
that You planned for me to do long ago.
Help me to see that just
as a skilled artist’s painting starts out far from looking like a masterpiece and
then, by the artist’s hand, grows into the beautiful end result, I need to
understand myself in terms of the masterpiece in progress that I am.
Help me to understand that
You, as the Master Artist, see the end from the beginning—so You see me as the
masterpiece that I am, during all the time that You are working on me.
And just as I wouldn’t
want to disrespect an artist, who was in the middle of creating a fine work of
art, by speaking poorly about his work, help me to not disrespect You as my
Creator, by watching what I say about the unfinished work that You are doing in
me.
Through my understanding
of the work that You are about in me, help me to not be critical of others—because
in doing so, I disrespect You for the unfinished work You are doing in them.
Help me to see myself as Your masterpiece, so I might also see the beauty of Your other masterpieces—which are the lives of those who surround me each day.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
