Wise Enough To Seek A Worship-Worthy King

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

—Matthew 2:1-2 (NKJV)

Dear LORD,

Help me to be wise enough to seek You and to worship You, just for who You are.

I don’t want to be a man who foolishly sits back and waits for You to seek me out—like I am the one who is worthy to be sought after.

I don’t want to be a man who foolishly acts like You should be held accountable to me for Your actions—as if I were a judge over You.

I don’t want to be a man who foolishly demands that You prove that You are who You say You are—refusing to submit to You by faith.

I don’t want to be a man who foolishly looks to You for what I can get from You—as if You owed me something.

Rather, help me to be a wise man, who goes to great lengths to find You, even if it means the journey is long, difficult and filled with danger—because You are worthy to be sought after.

Help me to be a wise man, who seeks after You from my heart—knowing that it is by faith that You will be found when I seek You with all that I am.

Help me to be a wise man, who recognizes and worships You for Who You are—the Sovereign Almighty God, Creator of all there is.

Help me to be a wise man, who looks to see what I can give back to You from the great blessings that I have been given—and be that man who does so, as an act of worship to You.

Help me to be wise enough to seek You and to worship You, just for who You are.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
