I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
—Romans 7:21-25a (NLT)
God of My Salvation,
When my sinful nature overwhelms me, when I feel confused and defeated by the forces of darkness waging spiritual war deep within me, help me to remember again the freedom from sin that Christ gave me and allow His power to lift me up to victory once again.
With all of my heart, I
love Your Word—Your principles, laws, instructions and commands. But because of the sin that remains in me, I
cannot seem to break completely free from sin’s power over me.
Help me to rid myself of
anything that is in me which is more loyal to my old selfish way of living,
than to You, my God.
You have set me free from
the bondage of sin over me. Now help me
to walk in the freedom from sin that You make possible by Your power at work
within me, as I look to Your Word and Your Spirit to move me forward with You.
For I cannot do it in my
own strength, but only by Your power, as I put all of my trust, faith and hope
in You alone and believe that You will set all things right.
When my sinful nature overwhelms me, when I feel confused and defeated by the forces of darkness waging spiritual war deep within me, help me to remember again the freedom from sin that Christ gave me and allow His power to lift me up to victory once again.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
