“Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the LORD your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.—Joel 2:13 (NLT)
Heavenly Father,
Grant that any sin left hidden within me would be fully exposed and bring me to grief—so that my grief would lead me to heartfelt repentance, my repentance would return my heart to You, and that You would heal me, because of Your mercy, compassion, and unfailing love for me.
Let any outward, visible
manifestation of my repentance from my sin be an accurate indication of my
heart being torn with grief over my sin—and my resolve to turn from that sin, to
leave it behind forever, to plead once again for Your forgiveness, and to
return home to You.
Help me to choose to return
to You quickly, with the confidence that comes from truly knowing You—believing
that You are full of mercy and compassion, slow to get angry, and filled with
unfailing love
Help me to run back to
You, in the assurance that You are eager to welcome me back, eager to relent
from giving me the punishment that I deserve and to bring me back to walk in
obedience to Christ—in the joy, peace and freedom that His death and resurrection
bought for me.
Grant that any sin left hidden within me would be fully exposed and bring me to grief—so that my grief would lead me to heartfelt repentance, my repentance would return my heart to You, and that You would heal me, because of Your mercy, compassion, and unfailing love for me.
