Humility And Authority

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

—James 4:7 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to humble myself before You completely.  Then empower me to resist the devil, so he has no choice but to flee from me in fear.

Empty me of any pride that hides within my heart and help me to acknowledge that You are everything I need—that in You I find power to accomplish Your will for me, protection from the attacks of the enemy, provision for my every need, and that peace that transcends my understanding.

Help me always humbly acknowledge and submit to Your authority over me and Your power at work in me, through the Holy Spirit, as I use the authority that is given to me—in the name of Jesus, as one of His followers—against the enemy.

Never let me forget that the only weapon the enemy has to use against me is his relentless attempt to deceive me into not believing the Truth of Your Word—for there is nothing more dangerous to the enemy than a Christian who knows, believes, and acts on the Truth found in Your Word.

You alone have authority over me.  So, as I submit to Your will for me—in obedience to Your Word—You will give me the strength and confidence to act in faith on Your command to resist the attacks of the devil, knowing that he must run from me.

Help me to humble myself before You completely.  Then empower me to resist the devil, so he has no choice but to flee from me in fear.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
