The Attitude Of My Heart

This is what the Lord says:

“Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
Could you build me a temple as good as that?
Could you build me such a resting place?
My hands have made both heaven and earth;
they and everything in them are mine.
    I, the Lord, have spoken!

“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,
    who tremble at my word.”

—Isaiah 66:1-2 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to live in the truth that the temple in which You wish to come and remain is deep within my heart.

Human hands could never make a dwelling suitable for You, for You have made all things both in heaven and on earth. You already own everything there is, so what new thing can I give to You?  You have no need of a temple made with human hands.

You are not so much interested in what “great things” I can do for You—as if You couldn’t manage without me—as You are in the condition of my heart toward You.

Help me to keep a humble heart—not only realizing, but boldly declaring, that You are the source of any good found in me.

Help me to keep a contrite spirit—deeply sorry and remorseful over my sins and shortcomings.

Help me to keep a reverential fear for the magnificent power of Your Word—which is alive and able to change even the darkest reaches of the human soul.

Bless me with Your presence and Your power always.

Help me to live in the truth that the temple in which You wish to come and remain is deep within my heart.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
