The Best Life

Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.

—John 12:25 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for helping me to understand that the best that this world has to offer me is as nothing when compared to the joy of a life spent in Your presence for eternity.

Help me to hold lightly onto those things that define my life in this world, so that they don’t hold me back from the incomparable joy of that eternal life You have planned for me.

Save me from my own self-centeredness, which lies to me and would have me believe that I can control my life—which would keep me always striving to find my comfort and security in things, which, in fact, cannot last and are outside of my control.

Help me to be ready to give up the comfort, security, pleasures and advantages of the life that I been blessed with here—totally giving my life over to Your care and control—so that I might gain that true life which is only found in serving You.

Make me even be willing to freely give up my very life itself, if by doing so I might somehow serve You and bring glory to Your name.

Thank You for helping me to understand that the best that this world has to offer me is as nothing when compared to the joy of a life spent in Your presence for eternity.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
