Loving God, Myself and Others

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

—Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Grant that I might truly love You—with everything within me—so that I can love myself and others as I should and obey Your commandments, as a demonstration of my love for You.

Help me to reap the benefits of having a personal and intimate relationship with You—that comes from spending time to get to know and understand You—so that I might have right relationships with others, as well.

In loving You, help me to focus on the things I should do to show my love for You and others, rather than things that I should not do—so much so, that I come to a point where I have left no room to even consider that which I should not do.

Help me learn to love myself by understanding how much You love me—despite the way that I sometimes behave.

And help me to understand that same love that You have for me is extended to every single person on earth—no matter how they behave.

Give me the desire and the ability to love them as You have loved me, by helping me to see them with the love with which You have looked upon me.

Grant that I might truly love You—with everything within me—so that I can love myself and others as I should and obey Your commandments, as a demonstration of my love for You.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
