No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
--Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)
Heavenly Father,
Help me to remember that my past should not be a prison which holds me captive, but rather a springboard that launches me into the things that You have prepared for me today and in the days to come, as I seek to serve You with all that I am.
I don’t ever want to
arrogantly take up the notion that I have achieved the perfection to which You
are calling me—because I haven’t even come close.
Nor do I want to be
trapped by the sin of my past failures and shortcomings—unable to move forward
because of my guilt and shame.
I want to acknowledge
Christ’s power to forgive me and truly receive that forgiveness of my sin—so
that I am able to focus on moving on from my past and looking forward to those
things that You have waiting for me with each new day that comes.
Help me to realize the
dangerous path that I take when I fail to walk fully in the light of Your forgiveness—because
when I allow the sin of my past to cripple me, I am in effect saying that what
Christ did to save me from my sin was not enough!
And help me to finish
strong the race that You have put before me and receive the heavenly reward
that You have prepared for me through Christ Jesus.
Help me to remember that my past should not be a prison which holds me captive, but rather a springboard that launches me into the things that You have prepared for me today and in the days to come, as I seek to serve You with all that I am.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
