As I Have Loved You

“A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

—John 13:34 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to be obedient to love others—just as Christ has loved me.

Christ commanded that I love others as He loved me, so that the world would see the love of Christ demonstrated in me—that You would be revealed by the love that I show to others.

Christ loved through service—in humility, setting aside His divine nature.

Christ loved through sacrifice—making the needs of others more important than His own life and death.

Christ loved through instructing others in the Truth—wrapping every lesson He gave to them in Your love.

Christ loved by bearing the pain of being misunderstood, reviled, falsely accused, and abused both verbally and physically—never making any of it about Himself, but enduring it all for the good of others.

So help me to love others, in humility, by service and sacrifice, putting them before myself—and allow me to see them as You see them, through the loving, merciful and compassionate eyes of Christ.

Help me to be obedient to love others—just as Christ has loved me.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
