Purposing To Please God

For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

—1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

May the words that I speak be pleasing to You—always spoken from truth and in love.

Thank You for entrusting me with the Good News—the Gospel of Jesus Christ—so that I can be one of Your messengers and speak, with Your approval, of this hope which is mine.

Help me to remember that my purpose is to please You in everything that I say—that even though people may not always like what I have to say, my purpose is not about pleasing people, it is all about pleasing You.

You know the motives of my heart, so I ask You to show me when my motives are not pure—for I cannot speak words that please You, if my motives are tainted.

May the words that I speak be pleasing to You—always spoken from truth and in love.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
