Confess, Turn, and Receive Mercy!

People who conceal their sins will not prosper,

but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

—Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

Merciful and Compassionate LORD,

Keep me from the foolishness of trying to conceal my sins. Help me to confess and turn from them, so that I will receive mercy.

By Your Holy Spirit, convict me of my sins—and expose the evil that they contain and the power that they have to destroy me—so that I might learn from my sins and not repeat them.

Help me willingly and openly confess my sins to You, for You already know them; tremble before Your justice, knowing that I deserve punishment; and fall upon Your mercy and grace, that I may be delivered from them through Your promise of forgiveness.

Help me to truly repent of my sins—to turn away from them and run the other direction, straight into Your merciful and compassionate arms of love. Then let me glorify You for the unmerited favor that You pour over me.

Keep me from the foolishness of trying to conceal my sins. Help me to confess and turn from them, so that I will receive mercy.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

To Confess and Turn From Our Sins

People who conceal their sins will not prosper,
but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

—Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

Merciful and Compassionate LORD,

Keep me from the foolishness of concealing my sins, and help me to confess them, and turn from them, so that I will receive mercy.

I don’t want to be a person that refuses to even acknowledge my sins.  So, help me to examine my sins carefully for the evil that they contain—and the power that they have to destroy me—so that I might learn from my sins and not repeat them.

Help me willingly and openly confess my sins—that in doing so I might honor Your greatness, for You already know all things; tremble before Your justice, knowing that I deserve punishment; and fall upon Your mercy and grace, in order to be delivered through Your promise of forgiveness.

Help me to truly repent of my sins—to turn away from them and run the other direction—straight into Your merciful and compassionate arms of love—and in doing so, bring glory to You for the gift of unmerited favor that You have poured out on me.

Keep me from the foolishness of concealing my sins, and help me to confess them, and turn from them, so that I will receive mercy.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

To Please Only You

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.  But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.

—John 12:42-43 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Grant me the courage to boldly testify to my faith in Jesus Christ at all times.

Help me not to miss any opportunity that You place before me to acknowledge Christ—His saving power, His delivering power, and His preserving power which is mightily at work within me—so that no one would doubt the sincerity of my faith.

May my boldness to declare the marvelous goodness of my Savior encourage others who believe—and yet are somehow held back by their fears—to openly profess their belief in Him, not allowing their fears to restrain them from taking their stand in Christ.

May I never care more about what others think, than I do about what You think. May I never allow Your creation to become an idol in my life—by worshiping man, rather than worshiping You alone.  And may I never allow my fears over what man can do to me keep me silent about the Truth.

For the greatest desire of my heart is to give all of my praise and honor and worship to You—to please only You—that any praise I might receive would come from You alone.

Grant me the courage to boldly testify to my faith in Jesus Christ at all times.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Never Be So Stupid

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid.

—Proverbs 12:1 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Open my heart to Your discipline, that I might learn from You.

Give me a love for knowledge and help me to accept correction as a pathway to learning.

Keep me from allowing my pride to hide those things that You want me to learn and help me to stay open to willingly receive the discipline, correction and wisdom of others, as I allow You to speak to me through them.

May I never be so stupid as to rigidly refuse to acknowledge my errors and foolishly continue in them, down a path that leads to certain destruction.

Open my heart to Your discipline, that I might learn from You.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
