Paying Attention

My child, pay attention to what I say.
    Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart,
for they bring life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body.

—Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to see that my total well-being is dependent on my willing obedience to Your instruction—which, in turn, is dependent on me listening carefully to Your words and allowing them to penetrate deep into my heart.

Help me to hear Your words—as Your Holy Spirit speaks to my spirit—when I read and study my Bible, while I listen to teaching and preaching, in my conversations with others, and when I make myself quiet before You.

Help me to carefully remember and treasure what You would say to me by Your Spirit—allowing the truth that Your words speak to find a home in the deepest parts of my heart and abide there.

Help me to apply the truth that I have hidden in my heart to everything I think, say and do—so that I might truly live and walk in health of body, soul and spirit for the rest of my days.

Help me to see that my total well-being is dependent on my willing obedience to Your instruction—which, in turn, is dependent on me listening carefully to Your words and allowing them to penetrate deep into my heart.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
