May You Be The One

You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.

—Deuteronomy 13:4 (NASB)

O LORD my God,

May You be the One that I follow, the only One that I fear, the One that I obey, the One that I listen to, the One I serve and the One that I cling to always.

Help me only go down paths that You lead me down—and not go off on my own.

Help me always to stand in reverential awe of Your infinite and delivering power—and not allow myself to become afraid of anything that looms before me, whether man, demon, or circumstance.

Help me to be careful to obey Your commands—knowing that You have given them to me for my peace, my provision and my protection.

Help me to listen to Your voice alone—and silence the many “voices” of this world which would try to pull my attention from You.

Help me to examine my actions to ensure that everything that I do is in service to You—that it is done to bring glory to Your Name.

Help me to cling to You with all of my heart, mind and strength—and allow no temptation to overcome me and separate me from You.

May You be the One that I follow, the only One that I fear, the One that I obey, the One that I listen to, the One I serve and the One that I cling to always.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

To Always And Completely Trust

Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.

—Psalm 62:8 (NASB)

Heavenly Father,

Oh, that I would always completely trust You!

You call on me to trust You at all times.  And I respond with sporadic bursts of absolute trust which are intermingled with my struggles over doubts and fears.

You plead with me to trust You in all situations and under all circumstances.  And while I find myself easily and completely trusting You with some things, at the same time I catch myself wanting to have control over other things—all the while knowing in my heart that they are not mine to control.

You caution me to trust You with constancy, both in good times and in bad.  Yet, when things are going along fine, I sometimes find that I have walked off in my own strength—having forgotten that I am totally dependent on You—only to be driven back to you in desperation when the next crisis comes crushing in on me.

You desire for me to pour out my heart to You.  And I foolishly choose to try to figure things out on my own, rather than to come into Your Presence, share with You the concerns of my heart and allow You to heal all my brokenness.

And all the while, no matter where I wander, You remain a strong tower—a fortress of strength, a place of protection, a storehouse of provision, a sanctuary of peace and an overflowing fountain of joy—just waiting for me to put all of my trust in You.

Oh, that I would always completely trust You!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Maker And Giver Of Life

“The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

—Job 33:4 (NKJV)

Almighty God,

Let me never take for granted that it is Your Spirit that has made me and Your breath that gives me life.

Your Spirit has made me according to Your image—and I bear the imprint of my Father God upon my spirit.

You, O LORD—the same God that breathed out the stars and galaxies—are the life-breathing God that spoke life into me and sustains my life in every moment by Your Word and for Your good purposes.

To You alone do I owe my everything—everything I have and everything I am—for every good thing found in me comes from You.

Let me never take for granted that it is Your Spirit that has made me and Your breath that gives me life.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
