Embracing Truth And Rejecting Myths

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

—2 Timothy 4:3-5 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Give me a listening and discerning heart—so that I can hear the Truth of Your Word, eagerly receive and embrace the Truth that I hear, and then willingly apply that Truth to my life, in every circumstance and situation that I face.

Don’t ever let me turn away from those who teach the Truth of Your Word and go in search of teachers who twist Truth into something less—thinking that by doing so I can satisfy my own selfish desires or justify a lifestyle that is not pleasing to You.

Keep me from falling for the half-truths that false teachers would have me believe—lies that lead me away from the Truth that sets me free and put me in bondage to my sin once again—and help me reject the paths of evil others may choose.

Help me to keep my head straight and my discernment keen in every situation that You lead me through—so that no matter what it looks like, feels like or smells like to my natural senses, I choose to trust the Truth of Your Word to carry me.

Help me to have the courage to suffer for You in order to hold onto the Truth—and to never give up as I work to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and seek to do all that You have given me to do.

Give me a listening and discerning heart—so that I can hear the Truth of Your Word, eagerly receive and embrace the Truth that I hear, and then willingly apply that Truth to my life, in every circumstance and situation that I face.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
