For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit
—1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 (NIV)
Heavenly Father,
I am grateful that You not only instruct us in the best way to go, but You also equip us to go there by giving us the Holy Spirit, who empowers us for our journey toward holiness.
Help me never to forget
that the instructions to live a holy life do not come from a man, but from
You—and are given to us for our own benefit, because of Your great love for us.
Let me always remember
that when I reject these instructions—instead giving them the opportunity to
work in me the blessings for which You designed them—it is not a man that I
reject, but You, the LORD GOD, my Creator, whom I have rejected.
Show me that in doing so,
I have grieved Your Holy Spirit within me—the very One who You have given to me
to make it possible for me to turn from impurity and choose to live a holy life—which
leaves me separated from Your power within me to overcome.
Help me to see that when I
choose impurity over Your call to holiness, I don’t have my own best interests
at heart—because I have rejected You and Your perfect plan for me.
I am grateful that You not only instruct us in the best way to go, but You also equip us to go there by giving us the Holy Spirit, who empowers us for our journey toward holiness.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
