“You shall have no other gods before Me.”—Exodus 20:3 (NKJV)
O LORD My God,
May I always choose You as the One and Only God of my life—for there is no other god worthy of my worship!
Help me to be on guard
against the danger of allowing the things of this world to take Your rightful
place, as Lord of my heart.
Help me to see the trap
that I fall into when I to begin to take my own identity, purpose and source of
security from the things of this world—such as wealth, position, authority,
power, fame, and pleasure—instead of getting my identity only from who You say that I am in Christ.
Help me never to allow my foolish pride to cause
me to make a god of myself, a desire
for wealth or possessions to make money
a god in my eyes, or a desire to enjoy life to make pleasure a god that I would follow.
Help me to remember that
the enemy will tempt me to make gods of anything in this world that I might
value or set my love upon, fear or submit to, delight in or depend on, other
than You.
Help me to come against
the temptation to put any other god before You, by putting my faith in the
power of Your Word to prevail against the lies of the enemy with Truth—and send
the enemy on his way.
May I always choose You as the One and Only God of my life—for there is no other god worthy of my worship!
