The Fear That Leads To Life

The fear of the LORD leads to life;
    then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

—Proverbs 19:23 (NIV)

O LORD, My God,

Help me to understand how I should fear You—how I should always come before You in awe of Your perfect Holiness, Your infinite Wisdom, Your supreme Power, and Your unfailing Love—so that I can find life, rest in contentment, and be untouched by trouble.

Help me to keep an attitude of highest respect for who You are—and out of that respect, show me how to walk in absolute humility with You, filled with wonder and awe for You, and for all that You have done, out of Your immeasurable love for me.

Thank You that, as I keep a correctly motivated attitude of faith in You, You lead me by Your grace into life—into every good thing that You have planned for me here in this life, as You secure my place with You in the next.

Thank You that You lead me to a place of rest and contentment in You—when I remember who You are, recall Your infinite power, and stand on Your promises to withhold no good thing from me, when I walk with You as I should.

Thank You that even though troubles may come to me, as long as I remain in fear of You, I can remain untouched by them, as You either walk me through them in perfect safety, carry me over them along a higher road, or deliver me entirely from them, every time.

Help me to understand how I should fear You—how I should always come before You in awe of Your perfect Holiness, Your infinite Wisdom, Your supreme Power, and Your unfailing Love—so that I can find life, rest in contentment, and be untouched by trouble.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
