The Wealth Of True Godliness With Contentment

Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.  After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.  So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

—1 Timothy 6:6-8 (NLT)

Generous God,

Let my aim in life never be to accumulate as many things as I can from that which this world has to offer, but rather to find true godliness with contentment—so that I might experience the depths of great gain that a godly walk and a contented relationship with You provide.

Grant me the peace I find within an ever deepening relationship with Your Son, Jesus—so that I am able to remain content with those things that You have entrusted into my hands and experience the pure wealth that comes when I use them for Your glory.

Help me remember that I brought nothing into this world and that every good thing in my life has surely come from You—that there is nothing that I own, for it all belongs to You.  And keep me mindful that I can take nothing of this earth with me when I leave to come to home to You—for there is no eternal value in earthly things.

Help me to trust You to see to it that I will have every good thing that I truly need—like food and clothing—and within that trusting, help me find my contentment made complete in You.

Let my aim in life never be to accumulate as many things as I can from that which this world has to offer, but rather to find true godliness with contentment—so that I might experience the depths of great gain that a godly walk and a contented relationship with You provide.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
