Taking God Seriously

How joyful are those who fear the Lord—
    all who follow his ways!

You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
How joyful and prosperous you will be!

Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine,
    flourishing within your home.
Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees
as they sit around your table.

That is the Lord’s blessing
    for those who fear him.

—Psalm 128:1-4 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

May I always ensure that my joy will be complete by taking You seriously and walking in obedience to Your ways.

You have promised me that if I follow Your ways I will enjoy the benefit of my obedience—that I will be blessed and experience the true prosperity of contentment with what I have been given.

You have promised that as I follow Your ways I will see the fruit of my obedience reflected in my family—that my family will flourish and be drawn together and nourished by my obedience to You.

Your blessing to me for my obedience is that You will bring change to those around me as You draw them by Your love to obedience to You—and that through them this love will be multiplied.

May I always ensure that my joy will be complete by taking You seriously and walking in obedience to Your ways.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
