Loving Words, Seeds Of Peace

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

—James 1:26 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Save me from my hypocrisy.  Help me to control my tongue, so my efforts to serve You will not be in vain.

Help me to see that when I fail to control what I say, I fail to demonstrate, by my example, the immeasurable love that You have for each one of us.

Keep me far from any tendency to gossip or put someone down and help me to walk humbly before You, rather than to be boastful and arrogant.

Keep me from speaking manipulative words, exaggerations, or lies of any kind—but rather help me to speak the truth in love.

Keep me from speaking negatively—but rather, help me to seek first to speak words that build up the one who hears them.

By Your Holy Spirit, alive and at work in me, help me to speak loving words that sow seeds of peace in the hearts and lives of those that hear—so that I might represent You well and so You might use me to draw others to a closer walk with You.

Save me from my hypocrisy.  Help me to control my tongue, so my efforts to serve You will not be in vain.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
