Servant Leadership

So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.  But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.  For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

—Mark 10:42-45 (NLT)

Dear Lord,

Help me to understand that when I sense You prompting me to lead, You are really prompting me to serve.

Thank You for the leadership example of Christ, Who came not to be served, but to serve others and to give His very life as a ransom for many.

Help me to remember what true leadership requires—remembering it has nothing to do with what I might receive from others and everything to do with what I can do for them.

Thank You for showing me that my greatest joy in leading comes as I discover the joy of humbly serving others.

Help me to understand that when I sense You prompting me to lead, You are really prompting me to serve.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
