Unfailing Love

“I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.
    I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
But I do not excuse the guilty.
    I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
the entire family is affected—
    even children in the third and fourth generations.”

—Exodus 34:7 (NLT)

Gracious and Merciful God,

Thank You for the unfailing love that You pour out liberally over me—and over those all the generations that follow me.

Thank You for the generous mercy You demonstrate to me, as You offer me forgiveness for all my iniquity, rebellion, and sin.

Help me always to run to You in repentance from my sin and in acceptance of Your forgiveness, having turned my back on the evil that would try to consume me and keep me from fellowship with You.

Help me to resist the enticements to sin against You, knowing that though You forgive me completely and remove that wall which my sin builds between us, there are consequences to my sin that I set into motion, which affect all those that come after me and which cannot be removed.

But, Your unfailing love is made available to a thousand generations—to all who come after me and who will run to You in repentance and choose to rise above the circumstances of their lives.

Thank You for Your unfailing love that You pour out liberally over me—and over those all the generations that follow me.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
