A Shield Around Me

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
    you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.

—Psalm 3:3 (NLT)

When I am surrounded by troubles on every side, remind me I am defended by the all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, merciful, gracious and loving God, who created all that there is by the power of His Word.

You are not a shield that I carry and direct towards that which comes against me.  But rather, You are a shield that continually and completely surrounds me on every side in total protection against the attacks of the enemy, as I place all my confidence in You.

You are all that I glory in and all of my worship and praise goes to You alone, for You are the one who carries me through every trial I face and You hold my head high—not allowing me to fall—so my joy remains complete in You.

When I am surrounded by troubles on every side, remind me I am defended by the all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, merciful, gracious and loving God, who created all that there is by the power of His Word.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
