First Things, First

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’  These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

—Matthew 6:31-34 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to seek You first—to set You as the focus of my life, thoughts and actions—being careful to strive to live in obedience to Your Word and serve You with my whole heart.

Keep me from wasting my time by cluttering my mind with the anxious worries that unbelievers allow to consume them.  I am a believer—help me to act like one!

Help me to put my attention on the answer, rather than the problem, knowing that You know my needs and already have a plan to provide for every need that I have.

Help me to trust that as I spend my energy putting You first in my life, You will not only supply every spiritual need that I have, You will also supply my every natural need.

Don’t allow the “what ifs” of tomorrow to rob me of the opportunities that You have placed before me to fully live in Your perfect will for me today.

Help me to seek You first—to set You as the focus of my life, thoughts and actions—being careful to strive to live in obedience to Your Word and serve You with my whole heart.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
