The One Thing

The one thing I ask of the LORD
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the L
ORD’s perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.

—Psalm 27:4 (NLT)

Gracious LORD,

What I want, more than any other thing, is to live every moment of my life in Your presence—delighting in the awesome beauty of perfection that can only be found in You, and filling my mind and my spirit with those things that are pleasing to You, so that Your will may be accomplished through my life.

Just as David desired to make Your house his home—knowing that Your house was where Your presence could be found, and that in Your presence he would find everything that He needed—so my heart cries out to be in Your presence.

For it is in Your presence I can experience firsthand, the perfection of all Your ways.

It is in You that I can experience provision for all my needs, protection from all my enemies, comfort for all my sorrows, wisdom to discern the truth of Your Word, a knowledge beyond my intellect, the power, strength and courage to do Your will, and a peace that surpasses my own understanding.

You have promised to never leave me, so help me seek to do those things that would heighten within me an awareness of Your presence with me and in me—so that I might never again step away from Your presence and power to go my own way.

What I want, more than any other thing, is to live every moment of my life in Your presence—delighting in the awesome beauty of perfection that can only be found in You, and filling my mind and my spirit with those things that are pleasing to You, so that Your will may be accomplished through my life.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
