Where My Help Comes From

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the L
ORD,
    who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.

—Psalm 121:1-3 (NLT)

Loving LORD,

Let me always look to You to be my source of help for every moment that I live.

Help me never to look to lesser things to be my help, when there is no greater help than You—the Maker of heaven and earth.

Why would I look to created things to be my help, when because of Christ, I have direct access to the One who created all things?

So help me never to make idols of those things which You have created, by placing them before You—the ultimate source of all my help.

For like a loving earthly father, You hold me by my hand so I do not stumble, as I walk through this life on earth.

And as my Heavenly Father, You watch over me at all times—never even pausing to rest—because of Your unfathomable love for me.

Let me always look to You to be my source of help for every moment that I live.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

As The Heavens Proclaim And The Skies Display

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.

—Psalm 19:1-2 (NLT)

God of All Creation,

Help me be one who listens that I might hear—as the heavens declare Your glory and the skies display Your craftsmanship.

Help me to consider the evidence of Your existence—that proclamation of Your power and presence—that surrounds me day and night and continuously speaks to make You known.

Help me to understand the extent Your greatness—as demonstrated by the limitlessness of the heavens that You created by Your Word alone—that my faith in Your Word might soar.

Help me to wonder at the innumerable multitude of stars You placed in the skies—galaxies that You effortlessly breathed into existence—and know that there is nothing too difficult for You.

Help me to take comfort within the harmony and order with which You choreographed everything You created—those purposeful and perfect balances and intricacies by which the parts of Your creation interdependently exist.

Help me to know Your love and care through all that You have made—and help me to realize that You made all these things for my enjoyment and for the enrichment of my faith in You.

And most of all, never let me fail to see Your divine signature written on the deepest parts of who I am—because You have made me in Your very own image.

Help me be one who listens that I might hear—as the heavens declare Your glory and the skies display Your craftsmanship.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

A Single Day In Your Presence

A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
For the L
ORD God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The L
ORD will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right.

—Psalm 84:10-11 (NLT)

LORD God,

Help me to purpose in my heart to seek out those places where I can find You and spend time nourishing myself with the abundance of good things that You have waiting for me there—things which can only be found when I spend time worshiping in Your Presence.

Let me be content to stand in whatever place of service You have for me, in order to serve You where You are at work—rather than to live the so-called “good life” that this world claims to be able to offer me.

For You are my sun and my shield—lighting my way and giving me life, as You guide and direct me through the dangers of this dark and dreary world and shield me from the unrelenting attacks of my enemy.

And You give me grace—which is both that good will that You display toward me and the good work that You are doing within me—and glory—which is both the honor that You have given me by adopting me as Your own and the hope that You have given me for that eternity with You which is yet to come.

Thank You for not withholding from me those things which You have determined to be for my good, as I seek to walk uprightly before You—doing what is right, as my reasonable service to You.

Help me to purpose in my heart to seek out those places where I can find You and spend time nourishing myself with the abundance of good things that You have waiting for me there—things which can only be found when I spend time worshiping in Your Presence.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
