Those Who Walk In Wisdom

Those who trust in themselves are fools,
but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

—Proverbs 28:26 (NIV)

Heavenly Father,

Keep me from the foolishness of trusting in myself and help me to walk as a wise man—with my eyes fixed on You and my heart beating only after Your own heart!

Help me to guard against foolishly placing too much trust in myself—believing my thoughts are necessarily wise just because I think them, that my own strength and power is sufficient to put me over, or that my own goodness or righteousness would ever be enough to justify me before You.

Help me to remember that the one that is most likely to deceive me is the one that has done it most often, and that one is myself—the one I should be most wary of trusting, when apart from You.

So help me to be wise and put all my trust in You, in Your power, in Your promises to me and in Your unfailing love for me—the One who is faithful to keep safe all those who, in wisdom, humble themselves and step forward in faith, with the One who is mighty to save!

Keep me from the foolishness of trusting in myself and help me to walk as a wise man—with my eyes fixed on You and my heart beating only after Your own heart!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
