Where Else Can I Go?

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

—Revelation 1:8 (NLT)

Almighty One,

Where else can I go for help, but to You?

You, Lord God, are the beginning of all there is and the end of all there is—Creator of everything that exists.

You have always been and will always be God the Father, the eternal Lord and Ruler over everything—past, present and future.

Without You in my life, I have nothing—nothing eternal, constant and unchanging to put my faith in, nothing to save me from my sin, and nothing that can transform me into the man that I am supposed to be.

You are my reason for living—the purpose behind everything I do and the Almighty source of all my strength and power.

Without You I am nothing!  But with You—because of You in me—I am fully equipped to be everything that I need to be to complete Your plan and purpose for me while I remain here on earth.

Help me to remember that there is no other place for me to go for help, but to You!

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Persistent Pursuit

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.  Keep on seeking, and you will find.  Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives.  Everyone who seeks, finds.  And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

—Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Help me to remain both persistent and pursuing in my search to have more of You in my life.

I don’t want to take a half-hearted, haphazard approach to knowing You and Your will for my life.  I want to be intentional and purposeful about my pursuit of Your heart.

I want to keep asking You for those good things that You want me to have—things like knowledge and understanding of Your ways, wisdom to discern the truth in every situation, and compassion and love for others.

I want to look for Your hand at work all around me—in nature, through situations, by my experiences, and as manifested in the lives of the people in my life—so that I will see and know that You are always here with me and be encouraged by Your presence.

I want to keep knocking at the door of Your heart, knowing that You will always welcome me in, and show me things I do not know, whenever I come to You in faith.

Help me to remain both persistent and pursuing in my search to have more of You in my life.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

My Best Hope, My Only Hope

The best-equipped army cannot save a king,
nor is great strength enough to save a warrior.

Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory—
for all its strength, it cannot save you.

But the LORD watches over those who fear him,
those who rely on his unfailing love.

—Psalm 33:16-18 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Watch over me today, as I set my heart to reverently and completely rely on You alone—on the mighty, saving and delivering power of Your unfailing love.

You show me in Your Word that a king should not count on a great army to be able to protect and save him, nor should a warrior believe that his great strength is enough to deliver him.

Help me to examine and remove those things that I may have allowed to become my “warhorse”—those things in which I have foolishly placed my trust for my safety, salvation, and deliverance—until there is only room in my heart for my trust in You.

Keep me from the false hope that comes from anything that would try to take Your place in my heart—and let true hope fill my heart, as I look to You alone.

Watch over me today, as I set my heart to reverently and completely rely on You alone—on the mighty, saving and delivering power of Your unfailing love.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
