Making The Palm Of Your Hand My Rock Fortress

You have been deceived by your own pride
because you live in a rock fortress
and make your home high in the mountains.
‘Who can ever reach us way up here?’
    you ask boastfully.

--Obadiah 1:3 (NLT)

Dear God,

May You forever be my rock fortress, my home high in the mountains, as I walk humbly before You.

I don’t ever want to allow my pride to deceive me into believing that as a result of the work of my own hands, I have acquired the unmerited blessings of Your hand.

I don’t ever want to put my confidence in the non-eternal things that surround me, thinking that somehow they protect me or are my salvation.

I don’t ever want to allow my pride to deceive me into believing that I am anything apart from what Your hand at work in me has made me.

I want to acknowledge that it is only by Your hand that there is any good in me—that You alone are the one who lifts me up and holds me in the palm of Your hand—so that I give no room for the enemy to take hold of me to pull me down.

May You forever be my rock fortress, my home high in the mountains, as I walk humbly before You.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
