Leading As Christ Led

He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

—Mark 9:35 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

Grant that I might more clearly see, more completely understand, and more fully embrace, the call to leadership that You have placed on me as Your child.

Help me to look to Your Son, Jesus, as my example of servant leadership and make that choice to lead by truly serving people—seeking to attend to the needs of others and encouraging them to become all that they can be, for You and for Your glory.

Help me not to consider myself more highly than I ought and keep me from thinking that I am somehow above any job that I need to do to help others along the way.

Help me to consistently check my motives for the pursuing the things that I seek after—to make sure I am not just chasing after position, power, or the praise of man—but truly seeking to serve others.

Help me to lead by walking in faithful service to others with humility, kindness, gentleness, goodness, mercy, grace, patience, peace, joy, and most of all, with the love of Christ.

Grant that I might more clearly see, more completely understand, and more fully embrace, the call to leadership that You have placed on me as Your child.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
