To Fan Into Flames

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

—2  Timothy 1:6-7 (NLT)

Gracious God,

Thank You, for the spiritual gifts You have placed deep on the inside of me and by your grace help me to boldly and fearlessly use them in love—for Your glory.

Just as one would stir up the buried embers of a slowly burning fire and then fan them into roaring flames, so help me to stir up the gifts that You have placed deep within me and keep them burning brightly for You.

The gifts You place within me were given to me to be used for Your glory—so I must exercise these gifts, that they might grow in power and effectiveness, as You choose to use me for Your purposes.

I know that the greatest hindrance to my taking every opportunity to use my gifts is fear.  But You have armed me against the spirit of fear—for fear does not come from You.

You have given me a spirit of power—to resolutely face any opposition or obstacle with courage—having delivered me from any cowardice or timidity by the strength of the Greater One who lives in me.

You have given me a spirit of love—both for You (which causes me to rise above the fear of man), and for the souls of others (which causes me to reach out to them with compassion).

You have given me a spirit of a calm and well-balanced mind—so that in quietness of mind, I can remain peacefully disciplined and controlled, speaking only words of Truth and Life.

Thank You, for the spiritual gifts You have placed deep on the inside of me and by Your grace help me to boldly and fearlessly use them in love—for Your glory.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
