Contentment And Strength

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

--Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT)

Father God,

Help me to remember that in order to be content in every circumstance, I must be not be focused on what I do or don’t have in my life, but rather be focused on the one person whose presence in my life gives me strength for every situation that I face—my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Don’t let me forget that Your vantage point is much higher than mine—that You know and understand all the details of my unfolded life, while I have only a cloudy memory of where I have been, a partial understanding of where I am now, and by Your grace, a mere glimpse of where I am going.

Help me remember that while You haven’t given me the power to accomplish just anything that I want to do without regard to Your perfect plan for my life, in Christ, You have given me the power to do whatever is required to fulfill Your plan.

Help me to keep my mind looking for the things that You want me to do, seeking to understand Your perspective, and drawing on Your power as I face each trail and every trouble that this short life here on earth may throw my way.

Help me to remember that in order to be content in every circumstance, I must be not be focused on what I do or don’t have in my life, but rather be focused on the one person whose presence in my life gives me strength for every situation that I face—my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
