Knowledge Too Wonderful

O Lord, you have examined my heart
    and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
    You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!

—Psalm 139:1-6 (NLT)

Omniscient God,

Help me to see that it is pointless for me to pretend that there is anything about me that You don’t already know altogether—and help me to accept and trust that You want me to come to You, just as I am.

There is nothing about me that ever has been—or ever will be—hidden from You!

You have examined my heart and You know everything there is to know about me—for You are my Creator.

You pay careful attention to every detail of everything I do—even if it is just to sit down or to stand up.

You know my all of my thoughts, even before they are caught by my own mind—and even when I have allowed my heart to stray far from Yours.

When I travel or when I rest at home, You know everything that I am doing—nothing I do escapes Your notice or Your interest.

You know what I am going to say—even before the words are formed in my mouth—whether they are blessings or curses.

You are the One who goes before me and the One who follows after me, never leaving me, wherever I go—and You are the One who continually blesses me with Your presence and Your unfailing love.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me to grasp—for You know me in ways which reach far beyond my capacity to understand—yet love me still.

Help me to see that it is pointless for me to pretend that there is anything about me that You don’t already know altogether—and help me to accept and trust that You want me to come to You, just as I am.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
