Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”—Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for not only inviting me, but urging me to come to You—so that You can teach me how to enter into the rest You give, both here and forever, to all who will come.
In my weariness and
brokenness, help me to continue to come to You and lay down those heavy burdens
of the world—which, in my own willfulness, I have piled high upon myself—so that I
might find peace and quiet for my soul in Your gentle presence.
Help me to balance and
carry out the responsibilities of those things that You have called me to do,
with the inner strength that only You can give—strength I can only find in Your
presence.
Help me remember that Your
yoke is easy to bear, when contrasted with going life on my own, and that the
burden You give me is light—because You are always there with me to do the
heavy lifting—when I remain in Your presence.
Thank You for not only inviting me, but urging me to come to You—so that You can teach me how to enter into the rest You give, both here and forever, to all who will come.
Amen.
