Doing, As Well As Not Doing

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

--James 4:17 (NLT)

Heavenly Father,

All my sin is found in my disobedience.

Help me to see how foolishly I see the sin of my actions as being of greater consequence than the sin of my inaction.

I know that You have given me instructions on what I should not do, in order to protect me from those paths that lead to destruction and death.

But help me not to forget that You have also instructed me in things that I should do, in order to bring me joy and peace—so that I might live life more abundantly.

Don’t let me lose sight of the foolishness that is found in having been given the light of life, but not walking in the fullness of that light in total obedience—doing those things that You have told me to do, as well as fleeing from what You have warned me against.

All my sin is found in my disobedience.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
